Modern day Koinonia

I have read an excerpt from a book ” The Problem of Wine Skins by Howard A. Snider, about some problems in modern age churches.

The church is especially under attacked today for its rigid institutionalism , its “morphological fundamentalism”- from the Book ” The Problem  of Wine Skins” by Howard A.Snider.

We hardly notice this problem emerging as we are focusing on our ministry and church growth not minding about the little details and fundamental needs of a church.

A Church can never be a church without “Fellowship ” or Koinonia.

It is the main component and binds the believers through faith and brotherly love.

The Crisis we face in this modern era:

  1. Entertainment vs True Worship      –  As of this Modern age Some Christian Churches are following the hype of new technology and amusement through variation of activities for self-satisfaction that may have an appeal to feed emotions, they are using music and entertainment as a mask to attract more people to come to their churches. We don’t go to church to just feel good and to be entertained, we go to church because we are serving God not ourselves.True worship comes with the deepest desire to glorify God to praise His Holy name for declaring His Power and We use music, songs and Hymns to declare what a powerful God We serve, the songs that come from within, the cry of our hearts seeking God, reminiscing His faithfulness and promises. And without a Holy Spirit, there is no true worship.

John 4:24

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

2.Lack of Intimacy with the Holy Spirit

One of our Missionary Pastor quoted ”

The most neglected persona inside the Church is the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Exist since the Beginning

Genesis 1:1 -2

1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

The same persona that raised Christ from the dead

Romans 8:11

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

And now being ignored, sometimes not being preached, and practice most of today.

The Spirit of God that raised Christ from the dead the same Persona who was there since the beginning, and our Seal that proves we are saved.

EPH 1:13

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

The first outpouring of the Holy Spirit is the Birth of the first church.

Acts 2

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

After the baptism of the Holy Spirit, they started to speak in other languages which they have not spoken before.

This shows the mere function and the clear vision God revealed to them.

Peter after getting baptized with the Holy Ghost overwhelmed and filled  He open His mouth and preached.Thousand was saved. a clear demonstration of the heartbeat of God which is salvation, and reaching the lost.

Acts 2: 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

The Fellowship of the Believers
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had a need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

This clearly shows that without the Holy Spirit there is no power.

3. Self-Exaltation, Selfish goals,  vs The Great Commission

Matthew 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”s

This clearly shows the heartbeat of God which is the “Evangelism ” preaching his word on isolated places, going outside the comfort zone to the foreign places and declare his mighty power reaching the lost.

The Valley of Dry Bones

Ezekiel 37

The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.

He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.

He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5

This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life

. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

Then he said to me, “Prophecy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into this slain, that they may live.’”

10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.

This is the power of preaching the Gospel, and evangelism. Jesus did not build a big church and remain inside when you read the Book of  Acts this clearly shows that the believers were greatly persecuted by the time of Emperor Nero to fulfill his poem he killed Thousands of believers. Some Christians were scattered they preached the Gospel of Christ, where ever they go from Apostle Paul, and Silas, Philip, Peter, John.

So what is this all about, it’s about the heart of God the love of God to the Sinners, that he reached the lost, heal the lame, breaking all the chains of demonic power over the people

Some modern churches today focuses only on extending the church thousand members, there’s no problem with that I can say but what are they doing inside?

Is there anyone who can go out see the situation of the lost, there are a lot of people desperate, Addicted, miserable and they really need God, how will you suppose to bring them to God?How will you supposed to testify and shared the gospel with them?

Church planting, Evangelism, is the way to extend the kingdom of God .

We need to be vigilant and focused on our main purpose why we are saved , What is God’s purpose in our life , to our family , our friends , our community .

What is the main purpose of Church to bring entertainment, Jesus Did not entertain his people during his time here, He preached the Gospel, He reached the lost, heal the lame, He declared the Power of God through healings and miracles, He have a great compassion with the lost Matthew 9:36

Matthew 9:36

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Church what are we doing today ? are we doing what God has commanded us to do?
